During one summer in my college days my dad used one of his business connections to get me a paid summer internship working in southern France for B.A.T., a French plastics processing company .I lived in a Tarare, a small Town, in which I was the only person there who could speak English. That’s where I learned to eat and enjoy snails and rabbit and to speak French to the point where visitors passing through the town actually thought I was French!
I stayed in touch with the head of B.A.T. after returning to the U.S. and years later was able to land a similar paid summer internship for my cousin John Hall. It was the first time either of us had ever been out of the country. It really was an eye opening experience and positioned us both to work full time in Europe in future years.
